What You Need to Know
GT’s Alive Ancient Mushroom Elixir Root Beer with Stuff is an astoundingly tasty beverage. It is an absolute treat and a view into an alternate reality where distinct and complex flavors are achieved without the aid of corn syrup and dyes. At the risk of Recommendation of the Week sounding like a giant paid advertisement (it’s not, though if GT’s would like to send Chris some money, they should feel free), I must interrupt the standard output of this letter to insist that you go to Whole Foods and find this drink.
Why it’s a Recommendation
I don’t know how to talk about food. “The subtle umami scent wafts gently from the opening of the bottle upon removal of the cap” is not a sentence I am qualified to write. Just look at that sentence. It’s not great. Pretty sure I just lost Chris that GT’s money.
I consider myself a somewhat adventurous diner, and when I saw this on the shelf, I thought, “hmmm, mushroom drink. Gross. I’ll try it.” Folks, let me tell you. It tastes like the root beer of childhood, but without all the sugar. There are 20 calories in the bottle. It was a gastronomic discovery for me.
Lastly, this would be a great party favor if anyone plans on hosting a viewing party for the new HBO show, The Last of Us.
